Certification Courses

The following certification courses help prepare people to take the pesticide applicator certification examainations. These courses are not required, as study materials are also available for purchase for self-study. The material on the certification exams is taken from these study materials. The following certification courses will help those who may not be comfortable with just studying on their own. Upcoming trainings are listed below as well as details on past courses.

Pesticide Short Course in Southeast Pennsylvania

The purpose of this course is to prepare individuals for the certified pesticide applicators exam in Core and Categories 06, 07, and 23. Penn State instructors present the course content in a four day course. Participants are expected to attend three or four days, depending on the training they want to complete. Following completion of the course, participants can take the exam given by the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture at a later date (see the PaPlants Web Site and highlight "Pesticide Programs" then click on "Certification Exam Locations" for examination schedule). Seperate exam fees are required when the exam is taken.

Study Materials Provided

Training packets are not included in the course fee. However, we will provide the CORE manual for all students. Students are responsible for bringing the category certification examination training packet to class. If your company does not already own packets, order the category training packets in advance and bring them with you to the course. See “Which study packets do I need?” in the flyer/registration form (listed below) to determine which Pesticide Education Packets (PEP) you should order.

Statewide Swimming Pool Certification Training

The purpose of this optional course is to provide additional preparation to swimming pool pesticide applicators for taking the Pennsylvania Pesticide Applicator Certification Exams for Core and Category 24 and to provide reference materials to facilitate the continued safe application of swimming pool chemicals to any pool other than a single-family residence.

Exams Given Certification exams can be taken on March 17, 2008, but this course registration does NOT include exam fees of $50 for the Core exam and $10 per category exam. The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture will collect this money (via check or money order) on the day you take the exam.
